About this Website

Classics.ac.uk is both an outreach organ and a gateway for information on the Greek and Roman world, classics in education, and the role of classics in our own world. The site has been compiled by the principal classical organisations in the United Kingdom.

The site is the result of discussions at the Classics Benchmarking Panel. A working party, chaired by Charlotte Roueche of King's College London, was set up, bringing together representatives from all the principal organisations involved in delivering classical studies in the UK. These organisations are:

The idea was given reality by a grant from the Classical Association, which enabled Gabriel Bodard (King's College London) to design and develop a protoype site. Thanks to King's College London for their support at this stage.

The first editor is Ian Ruffell (Glasgow), and the site is hosted at the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII) of the University of Glasgow.
